Company Overview
Com2uS Group is successfully servicing world-class games in line with the paradigm of the future content industry. Users from more than 160 countries around the world are enjoying various works based on hit IPs such as ‘Summoners War’, ‘Minigame Heaven’, and ‘MLB Perfect Inning’. The all-in-one game platform ‘Hive’ and the cloud computing service ‘GCloud’ are the foundation for providing fast and comfortable game and metaverse experiences anywhere in the world.

Challenge
Com2uS’ infrastructure environment was operated in a hybrid cloud form that combined IDC and its own cloud computing service, ‘GCloud’. The IDC environment must consider many things, including the burden of initial investment costs due to hardware purchase, maintenance of hardware failures, and server expansion due to users and traffic that may increase at any time. To complement this, the service was previously operated in a hybrid form combined with its own cloud computing.
The number of game users has continued to increase thanks to the annual global esports competition ‘Summoners War World Arena Championship (SWC)’. Accordingly, a faster and more stable infrastructure that can collect and analyze massive amounts of user data in real time is needed. So, we began considering introducing public cloud computing to create a new infrastructure.
Solution

“We were operating services in a hybrid cloud environment, but as an infrastructure operator, I constantly wondered about more stable infrastructure. In particular, we needed an infrastructure that could collect and analyze the rapidly increasing amount of user data in real time, and after reviewing various public clouds, we decided to move to Google Cloud.”
– Im Sang-min, Team Leader of Infrastructure Technology C Team, Com2uS Platform Infrastructure Technology Department
In the process of reviewing public cloud, we looked at three criteria as the most important.
(1) Performance & Availability : Does it have the performance and availability to operate stable services across all regions of the world?
(2) Easy to Set-up : Can the infrastructure be easily configured through self-service on the web console?
(3) Global Latency : Is it suitable for providing global services without delay through its own network infrastructure? After comparing several cloud platforms, we decided to move our infrastructure to Google Cloud, which met all three criteria.

Afterwards, we conducted performance verification by finding a global region and suitable Google Cloud service that could operate stably on Google Cloud without significantly departing from the existing infrastructure structure of ‘Summoners War’. We began configuring the infrastructure with DB server performance and security as our top priority, and completed all migration tasks, from cloud service selection to actual configuration and existing data transfer, in just two weeks. Currently, all ‘Summoners War’ series are stably operated on Google Cloud.
In this process, Google Cloud’s Cloud NAT (Network Address Translation) service was selected as a way to minimize the external IP (Internet Protocol) addresses used in virtual machines (VMs) and reduce unnecessary external connection policies. Through Cloud NAT, the NAT IP addresses used for VMs can be automatically expanded and the network bandwidth applicable to each VM can be used as is, which is satisfactory in terms of security, scalability, performance, as well as cost reduction.

Benefit

“Bespin Global provides specific and clear guidance when any issue arises based on Google Cloud expertise and capabilities. What would have taken several hours if you had checked it yourself can be completed in less than an hour with Bespin Global’s guide. If you are thinking about adopting Google Cloud, I recommend Bespin Global.”

1) Stable infrastructure operation
With the introduction of Google Cloud, there have been many changes in infrastructure operations. VM migrations occur more than 200 times a day, but Google Cloud operates the service with peace of mind because there is no impact such as game interruption and there is no need to shut down the server. Recently, as we held collaboration events with other games, the influx of users increased faster than usual. Even in these situations, Google Cloud allows us to flexibly allocate necessary resources in real time, providing a stable service even when network traffic surges.
2) Reduce work time by 50%

To provide users with a more comfortable service environment, we are working with Bespin Global, a cloud partner with specialized technology and capabilities for Google Cloud. Bespin Global’s biggest advantage is reliable technical support and quick response to inquiries. For example, if a connection issue occurs between the game server and the DB, Bespin Global quickly checks and provides specific and clear guidance that says, ‘Where is blocked, and there is a problem here, so take action.’ Work time was reduced by more than 50% because tasks that would have taken several hours to check internally could be completed within an hour through Bespin Global’s guide. Com2uS Group plans to continue to cooperate through its partnership with Bespin Global and further enhance its services based on Google Cloud.
