WhaTap Labs is an IT monitoring company that operates Korea’s first SaaS-based IT integrated monitoring service, ‘WhaTap’. WhaTap provides system monitoring in all areas, from server, application, and database monitoring to Kubernetes, URL, cloud metrics, and logs, and provides insights to improve system stability. Additionally, it is characterized by being optimized for cloud-based MSA (MicroService Architecture). Based on the vision of ‘maximizing customer IT service performance’ and the mission of ‘helping developers and operators operate IT services more easily and conveniently’, we have secured over 1,000 domestic and foreign customers, doubling the rate every year. It’s growing fast.
Challenge
The on-premises-based WhaTap monitoring service had the disadvantage that it could only be used on certain in-house PCs and that it could only be adopted by some companies due to its high cost. Additionally, it took about 3 months on average to introduce a monitoring service, making it unsuitable for the modern cloud environment and making AI data learning impossible. Therefore, in order to provide a cloud-based monitoring service in line with IT technology trends, we wanted to develop the on-premise WhaTap monitoring service as a SaaS-type online service.
Solution
Together with Bespin Global, we utilized various AWS services to implement an elastic, horizontal, distributed SaaS service optimized for the cloud environment. Each service domain was separated and containerized using MSA, and Kubernetes was used to manage it reliably. In this process, we isolated resources on a tenant-by-tenant basis and established network access security through VPC (Virtual Private Cloud), Security Group, and NAT (Network Address Translation) to fundamentally eliminate influencing factors such as performance interference. To control access to AWS services created by tenants, we configured AWS Security Token Service (STS) to generate temporary security credentials and applied a read-only policy for monitoring. Additionally, it was designed to be highly available, highly scalable, and fault-tolerant using Amazon Aurora Serverless, a managed database service.

Benefit
To secure QoS (Quality of Service), Bespin Global deploys multi-AZ applications and provides data transmission, collection, and monitoring contact points using network load balancers (NLB), Amazon Route 53, and application load balancers (ALB). Separated by tenant. High-load tenant data storage was distributed to Amazon EBS (Elastic Block Store), and data storage was able to guarantee a high SLA through multiplexing, replica creation, and journal operation. As a result, I recently earned the AWS Foundational Technical Review (FTR) badge, a technical validation course provided by AWS.
By providing SaaS-type WhaTap monitoring service, customers can use the monitoring service anywhere through PC and mobile and quickly introduce the service at a reasonable cost. It is optimized for the cloud environment and enables stable AI data learning, allowing you to gain various insights through data analysis. Above all, because it is a cloud-native application and MSA structure, it is possible to quickly respond to new requirements or problem situations and provide a DevOps environment by securing flexibility and scalability.
