‘Boundless for All’: Kia Presents Vision for Future Mobility at CES 2018
Kia Motors plans to launch a full portfolio of connected cars by 2030, and at CES 2018, it showcased an artificial intelligence (AI) car that recognizes the driver’s voice and face as part of the connected car. Bespin Global applied facial/voice recognition technology to Kia Motors based on Amazon Web Services, and participated as a partner in the entire process from construction to implementation.
The facial/voice recognition technology implemented by Bespin Global sets the car to a pre-set environment according to the individual’s preference through facial recognition, and disables most of the car’s functions if driver recognition fails. am.
For facial recognition technology, ‘Amazon Rekognition’, a service that recognizes and analyzes images and faces, was applied, and for voice recognition technology, ‘Amazon Polly’, a service that converts text into voice, was applied. applied. Bespin Global’s Big Data Cloud Lab, a team specializing in big data, participated in the construction and implementation.

Architecture details
- Recognize faces through the camera
- Take a picture and send it to AWS S3
- Upload to S3
- When an image is uploaded to a specific bucket in S3, a corresponding event is sent to Lambda.
- Lambda calls Rekognition’s API to get information from analyzing a person’s face (emotions, glasses, eyesight, mustache)
- Determine which IoT message to send to PC based on face information analyzed through Rekognition – Logic can be implemented in Lambda
- By publishing a specific IoT message, the PC already registered as an IoT device receives the message.
- Text is sent to Polly from the received IoT message, so that the PC receives Voice Stream from Polly.
- Play sound
- Various actions that the user will experience on the PC are executed (Personalization schedule, Lights on, etc.)
