Synapse M is a video company that services Korea’s first online video platform ‘WECANDEO’. WeCandio is an all-in-one platform that provides all the tools necessary to operate video and live services on websites or app services. It consists of ‘VideoPack’ for building, distributing, and managing video services, and ‘LivePack’, which supports the entire live streaming process. In particular, we provide stable live services based on our extensive experience supporting various large-scale live performances such as the Melon Music Awards, Busan One Asia Festival, and High1 Seoul Music Awards. WeCandio’s unique advantage is that it is linked to domestic and international advertising platforms, allowing monetization through advertising. Major customers include Melon, iHQ, and Pororo TV, and more than 1,000 companies ranging from content and entertainment to media, finance, education, and public institutions use WeCandio.


Challenge
Previously, most of WeCandio’s systems were operated in an on-premise environment. I purchased the IDC server myself and had a system engineer install and manage the program. However, as the size of the business grew, the demand for server and infrastructure management personnel increased rapidly, and there were various limitations in providing live services, especially in an on-premise environment. This is because it was difficult to provide stable service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with our own system, and it was also very difficult to quickly respond to issues that occurred in the system. So we decided to adopt AWS to build a more efficient and stable live system.
Because we had little internal cloud experience, it was not easy to find the necessary information when first introducing and using AWS. Additionally, the cloud transition process took more time and money than expected. Transitioning to the cloud is absolutely necessary, but since it involves completely changing one’s constitution, I think there is bound to be a lot of trial and error at first. However, if this trial and error is done incorrectly, it can determine the survival of the company. Therefore, a partner with diverse cloud transformation experience was essential.

1) Building AWS-based video and live services
When it comes to video services, the most important thing customers consider is stability. By introducing AWS Elemental MediaLive and Amazon CloudFront, SynapseM is able to provide stable live services to customers 24 hours a day. We use AWS Elemental MediaLive for live video encoding and Amazon CloudFront for global video delivery and traffic management. The introduction of AWS has made it easier to expand media services globally. In fact, many customer companies are providing video and live content 24 hours a day not only domestically but also overseas through WeCandio, which is based on AWS.


In the early days of AWS introduction, some AWS services were introduced and used in the existing on-premise environment. However, as time passed and IDC servers began to age, we are now transitioning all of our infrastructure to AWS. We are gradually increasing various services such as AWS Lambda, Amazon EC2, and Amazon S3, and are currently using most systems converted to AWS. We expect that next year will be the ‘first year of the cloud’ in which all infrastructure will be transferred to the cloud.
2) Cloud Partner Bespin Global


Through our partnership with Bespin Global, we are receiving a lot of help in using the AWS cloud. Bespin Global provided information on essential but difficult to obtain information, such as price discount policy, credit information, and new feature updates. So, I was able to use and operate AWS stably and efficiently while focusing on my main job. 1) Reduce communication costs by 50%
If you have any questions or requests while using AWS, you can contact us through Bespin Global. As we began providing WeCandio services through AWS in earnest, there were many customer inquiries related to AWS. 2) Easy cloud resource and cost management


Before introducing OpsNow 360, I used to go directly to the AWS console to view usage and cost settlement data. However, the AWS console was so complex that it was very difficult for non-technical users to view and understand. On the other hand, OpsNow 360’s overall user interface (UI) is very easy and user-friendly, and the report function is also excellent. So now, all cloud-related data is checked through OpsNow 360. By using OpsNow 360, we can optimize costs and manage the cloud environment more easily and reliably. For companies, it reduces the burden on human resources required for cloud management, and for employees, it also has the advantage of freeing them from management stress. It is expected that there will be more inconveniences at work without OpsNow 360.
