THE CUSTOMER
YBM, founded in 1961, is an education company specializing in publishing textbooks, accredited language tests, and private institutes and schools for 57 years. In order to prepare for the rapidly changing educational environment, we are providing specialized education services such as cyber academies and online education.
THE SITUATION
The client company needed an IT infrastructure to stably operate the ‘Y Cloud’ service, which is mainly used by teachers.
When the total number of service users is about 10,000, the storage for uploading educational content is configured to be 2 TB in total along with the system requirements of 5,000 daily accesses, about 150,000 page views, and 25 GB of network traffic. At this time, flexible scalability was required because the number of visitors and the number and capacity of uploaded content are unpredictable.
THE SOLUTION
When implementing a web service, we chose the cloud infrastructure because of the advantage of only needing to scale an instance when the number of users increases, and the fact that the service can be used without implementing a separate streaming function or download function for storage.
For stable traffic management, maintenance, and high scalability, the customer established an environment that had to be operated with 6 servers and 1 storage when building an on-premises environment with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
BENEFITS AND NEXT STEPS
Through this cloud project, YBM is expected to stably perform online services and reduce IT infrastructure costs by about 30% with a 3-year Reserved Instance (RI) contract. In addition, we expect to be able to focus only on the education business, leaving the most important reliability in the online education service to the cloud infrastructure.
